Creating portraits from plastic debris, I strive to show a human soul. My figures are a playful response to a serious issue— the perilous state of the ocean and our marine life. While I admire activists and leaders who address the problem, my own voice is that of an artist. The contrast between the humanity of the figures and the plastic materials they are made of suggests that we are part of and responsible for the problem we have created.

Through my work I explore serious issues with imagination and humor. My intention is to spark curiosity, conversation, and awareness in the viewer. Stylistically, when viewed from afar, my work resembles classical portraiture done in oils. As the viewer moves closer a secondary discovery is made and they may start to name the items that strike a memory of their own past possessions. This quiet conversation is the point that may move them to a deeper questioning and this is where I hope to engage them through my art.
