twyla exner
Twyla Exner is inspired by the curiosities of nature, compelled by the reciprocal systems of electronic refuse, and captivated by the idea of technologies gone awry. She uses the materials and imagery of discarded plastic-coated electronic technologies and everyday plastic waste to create whimsical and worrisome sculptures and installations. She is interested in natural and manufactured materials that structure our daily experience, their formal and practical similarities, and the ways in which their transformation holds meaning and history.
Twyla holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Regina (Saskatchewan, Canada) and a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts from Concordia University (Quebec, Canada). She has exhibited her work, given lectures, and taught workshops across Canada and in the United States. She is the recipient of numerous grants from the Saskatchewan Arts Board, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the British Columbia Arts Council, and the Canada Council for the Arts. Her artworks can be found in public collections including the Saskatchewan Arts Board (Saskatchewan, Canada), the Royal British Columbia Museum (British Columbia, Canada), and the Kamloops Art Gallery (British Columbia, Canada).
