Artist, educator and advocate, Calder Kamin transforms trash into beautifully crafted creatures and opportunities to engage a new generation of creative problem solvers. Nature’s endless ability to reuse and adapt motivates her to eliminate waste and reimagine it as art. Reaching wide audiences of art lovers and environmentalists at any age is important to Kamin's mission.

Thousands of children have experienced her educational programs through the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, The Contemporary Austin, Texas A&M and Utah Museum of Contemporary Art’s Art Truck. Her 2016 solo exhibition "Plastic Planet" was the subject of an episode of PBS Arts In Context series. She was the 2018 Artist-in-Residence at San Antonio’s Children’s Museum, The DoSeum. The culminating exhibition, Dream Tomorrow Today was supported by Kamin's second Mid-America Arts Alliance Artistic Innovations Grant. In 2019, she presented at SXSW EDU, The Austin Central Library and the i.d.e.a Museum's exhibition Junk Yard Jungle in Mesa, AZ. Kamin also teamed up with Disney's The Little Mermaid to inspire Disney Channel viewers to make art out of ocean trash.

Kamin holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute and Business Skills Certificate from the University of Texas. Kamin has a background in art administration, higher education and city government providing professional development for artists. She is the University of Texas College of Fine Arts Career Services Manager.
